Over the years we have lost several members of our BSCD family and we wish to remember their enthusiasm, love and support of Scottish Country Dancing by making it possible for others to attend Scottish Country Dance (SCD) workshops and events.  In 2003 we established the Memorial Scholarship Fund (MSF) and have come up with the following criteria for the Fund.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask an MSF Committee Member.

MSF Application Form

Where does the money come from?

  • MSF dance each spring; usually the last dance of the term.

  • Donations throughout the year.

  • Fund raising events.

 How is money distributed ?

  • One half of the funds designated for the MSF at the beginning of the Fiscal Year (FY) will be available for applicants for the Fall term, the remaining half for the Spring term.

  • Amount of funds available depends on MSF dance proceeds and donations.

  • Only Memorial Scholarship funds will be used for this purpose.  No other BSCD funds will be made available for this purpose.

  • Interested persons must complete and submit an application for funds to a MSF Committee member.

Who is eligible to receive MS funds?

     1.  BSCD Members in good standing (dues current).

     2. Non- BSCD members attending BSCD events.

What can the money be used for?

1.  BSCD members may apply for funds for:

a.  Events – admission/registration fee only (not for travel, lodging or meals) for both BSCD and non-BSCD workshops, balls, dances.

b.  Membership Fees

               i. One term (Fall or Spring) grant

ii.  One term (Fall or Spring) loan to be paid back to club by end of term.

2.  Non-BSCD members may apply for funds for the annual BSCD Workshop or Workshop and Ball/Dance.

Who determines who gets the money?

  The MSF Committee.  Members are:

Position Term
Vice President - Chair Term of Office
Treasurer Term of Office
Member at Large Term of Office
Member at Large Term of Office
Club Member One year

§         Committee meets twice a year (FY) to review applications and as necessary beyond that.

§         If a committee member has an application under review, they must excuse themselves from the review process.

How do they determine who gets the money?

§    The committee reviews:

·    Membership status – confirm dues are current, talk with teacher(s) about attendance and commitment to club.

·    Have they applied within the past year?

·    Have they received funds from the MSF before?

·    Reason they want the funds.

When are applications due?

§    Applications for MEMBERSHIP FEES are accepted only during the first month of each term.

§     Applications for EVENTS strongly recommended three (3) months prior to date registration due for the event.

What are the limitations for receiving funds?

1.   Only one application per person will be accepted for an EVENT or for MEMBERSHIP FEES per fiscal year.

2.   Preference in approving applications is given to those who have not received Memorial Scholarship funds before.

3.   Funds are distributed on a first come, first served basis.
