Social Dances
Social
Dances are held several times throughout the dance season (September
through May) and are a time to try out the steps and dances you've been
practicing in class, learn new ones, socialize with friends, and just
have a GREAT time! Social dances are always open to the public and
everyone is welcome. In the spring we have a Ceilidh (pronounced
kay-lee); a Scottish party. At the Ceilidh you can enjoy dancing, live
music, entertainment, refreshments and friends.
Please
see the Calendar for
dates, times, and locations for Social Dances.
What to Wear: Wear comfortable clothing to dance in. Women often
prefer to wear a loose, flowing skirt, however, that is not required.
Wear comfortable, soft-soled, flexible shoes to dance in.
Dance
Programs with dance steps/instructions are
available via the "Program" link on the Calendar, and are posted at
least one week in advance of the dance. Be sure to print out the program
and bring it with you to the dance!
If you have any questions about the Social Dances,
please contact us.
Area
Events
There
are many Scottish and dance related events in Western Washington and
lower British Columbia each year. To see a list of area events, check
out our Area Events page or go to the BSCD
Calendars.
Workshop & Ball
Each
year in early November, we hold the Annual BSCD Workshop & Ball. The
Workshop is a chance to learn new steps, techniques, and dances from
renowned SCD teachers. For information on the Workshop and other
activities, including the Friday Night Social, Saturday Afternoon
Activity Options, and the Bellingham Ball and Silent Auction on Saturday
evening, check back in August. Or, contact the
Workshop Coordinator.
